The problem was caused by the version of Solaris installed (2.6) being out before the 250 was put into production. Hence no entry was in /usr/platform. This caused the problem. Solution: Reinstall using a more up to date release. :-( Thanks to David Glass Adam Kirby Mark Lewis Tony Walsh DH -----Original Message----- From: Henderson, David Sent: 27 September 2001 10:16 To: 'sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org' Subject: uname -a discrepancy Folks I have two solaris boxes. When I do a uname -a on one I get the following: SunOS XXX 5.6 Generic_105181-26 sun4u sparc sun4u and when I do it again on another server I get this: SunOS ZZZ 5.6 Generic_105181-26 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80 My question is why does one have SUNW,Ultra-80 at the end when the other one does not. The one that does show the SUNW,Ultra-80 is a 220 and the one that doesn't is a 250. Any help appreciated.
