Jed Dobson answered my question. The answer, below, is followed by my original question. -- Darryl There are errors being reported in the /var/dt/Xerrors file. The default configuration for X11 assumes a frame buffer for display :0. The Netra X1 does not have a frame buffer. This can cause problem with dtlogin. Please modify the Xservers file to disable the display :0. cp /usr/dt/config/Xservers /etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype and edit the new file to comment out the line starting the display :0 Xsun. I.e. change: :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner to: # :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner This is covered in the README.SUNWut located in /etc/dt/config. -----Original Message----- From: sunmanagers-admin@sunmanagers.org [mailto:sunmanagers-admin@sunmanagers.org]On Behalf Of Darryl Pace Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 11:19 PM To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org Subject: dtlogin question Managers, On an E4500 with 6 CPUs, 6 GB of RAM, running Solaris 7, we have several Sun Rays attached via 3 switches. We have a problem with the dtlogin process using a large chunk of the CPU time. We have a 450 running Solaris 2.6 that is connected to about the same number of Sun Rays via 3 switches. Its dtlogin process does not chew up CPU time like the 4500. On the 4500, the Xerrors file gives what may be a clue to figuring out what the problem is. It repeatedly reports an error that says that it can not open the /dev/fb file. True enough, this file doesn't exist on the 4500. I did a "man -k fb" and looked at the /etc/devlink.tab file in order to see what this file does. All of the information I got is framebuffer related, so I assume the file is for a framebuffer. However, the E4500 does not have a framebuffer installed. Is /dev/fb a file that should be present on every Solaris 7 box? If so, do you know what OS package contains it? If not, then is it possible to break the relationship between CDE and /dev/fb? Thanks. -- Darryl _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Sat Nov 17 17:22:16 2001
