Same with this....it did not get posted yesterday. -deb ------------- Begin Forwarded Message ------------- Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 07:59:09 -0500 (EST) From: Deborah Santomauro <santode@clcsmail.ksc.nasa.gov> Subject: SUMMARY: flashPROM question To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-MD5: 7e2tGSUgINsnhsQJIfxOUA== Thanks to Willie F., Joseph Herpers, and Carl Ma for their quick responses to my question regarding "FCODE" and "iPOST". Carl provided a URL that describes where "Forth byte code" comes from (http://www.primenet.com/pcai/New_Home_Page/ai_info/pcai_forth.html). Both Joseph and Willie provided a bit more background on how FCODE is used, which is to provide descriptors - i.e. memory mapping info - of cards that use the SBUS. The only documentation I found on Sun's web site was for reprogramming the flash prom in an enterprise system, but nothing as to the "why". I guess only someone with experience in the actual architectural configuration of a SPARC would be able to answer the question as to "why forth byte code is used". I never did find out if there is any differences between "iPOST" and "POST". Again, thanks to all who did respond Cheers, -deb Deborah Santomauro Unix System Administrator Kennedy Space Center - Florida / CSOC-ROS email: santode@kscems.ksc.nasa.gov Work: 321-861-2226 o, o__ o_/| o_. </ [\/ [\_| [\_\ (`-/-------/----') (`----|-------\-') ~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~@~~~~ -When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.- Franklin Delano Roosevelt ------------- End Forwarded Message ------------- Deborah Santomauro Unix System Administrator Kennedy Space Center - Florida / CSOC-ROS email: santode@kscems.ksc.nasa.gov Work: 321-861-2226 o, o__ o_/| o_. </ [\/ [\_| [\_\ (`-/-------/----') (`----|-------\-') ~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~@~~~~ -When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.- Franklin Delano Roosevelt _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Dec 18 09:21:46 2001
