Thanks to Justin, Jeff, Rick and ullyatg who replied. All our users run on ksh so the tracking is not a problem - I am fairly certain this is down to an install by a collegue (gabrielle) which was done co-incidentally about 10 minutes before people started shouting. The bit confusing me was the part about the perl which sounded pretty suspicious. Thanks a lot guys.
