---------- Original question ---------- Hi All, I have a 'weird' question. One of our professors need to work with an Ultra 5 (Sol 7) at home. He has a DSL connection and a Mac is using it. He need to transfer big amounts of data to the Sun station and I need to figure a way to do that. Can I connect the Ultra to the DSL line directly? Where I can find some documentation on that? Also can I leave the Mac on DSL, get the data there and later, using a cross over cable, transfer it to the Ultra 5? _______________________________________________ THANKS to all the people who responded (too many too mention). Basically there're 2 solutions: 1) if the ISP is running DHCP buy a DSL router (Linksys has quite a few models that would do it) and setup both the Mac and Sun as DHCP clients. 2) if you don't need to transfer data all the time you can just use a hub to connect the Sun and Mac and transfer data using FTP. There were a few more complicated solution (quite interesting thought) but I decided to go with the first one. The router was about $100 US and the model I got (Linksys BEFSR41) will also work as a firewall for the 2 machines. Again thanks to all for your response DavidReceived on Tue Jun 26 17:04:51 2001
