Thanks to a bunch of folks, including (hope I didn't miss someone):
Kurt Ludwig, Benjamin Ingwersen, Robert Aldridge, Tom Sevy, Jim Kurtenbach,
Paul LaMadeleine, Oisin McGuinness, Alan Davis, Dennis Breeden, Thomas
Walsh,
David Bader, Hank Lee, Art Mast, Yura Pismerov, Boe Franklin, Trevor
Paquette
Dan Goetzman, Greg Freemyer

Some suggested specific products, some just companies, suggestions (in order
received) included:

Cyclades TS1000/TS2000 www.cyclades.com
Digital Networks	DS90M/DS90TL/DSRVW www.dnpg.com
Western Telematic - www.wti.com
Emulex - www.emulex.com
Digi Portserver II www.digi.com
Equinox ELS (dec like servers) www.equinox
Lightwave Consoleserver 32
www.lightwavecom.com
ConsoleWorks	TecSys (software) www.tecsys.com
Cisco AS2511 www.cisco.com
Livingston Portmaster 2E www.lucent.com

Some suggested browsing the used markets for products (Dec, Livingston and
Cisco mentioned):

Gemini Digital
www.geminidigital.com
Newman Group www.newman.com
ebay www.ebay.com

One person Suggested build-you-own with a Unix kernel and a serial mux card.
(and there were several sales people contacted me based on the mail - tich,
tich, tich)

It doesn't appear that any fit ALL my wishes, some do more some less.

I did some quick calculations of some of the listed new products based on
web page price
and I saw a range of $81/port to $259/port.

I think I will browse the used market for some DEC/DNPG DS90Ms because I
very familiar with them, I have a few already, their size and price fit my
needs ($152.00/port based on new pricing).

thanks to all
\s\Rick
