best A:, thanks to everyone's correct answer. If you were able to get a cd in the remote machine you'd do: cd /cdrom/Solaris_8/Tools ./setup_install_server -b /export/boot share -F nfs -o ro,anon=0 /cdrom/Solaris_8 then ./add_install-client server:/cdrom/Solaris_8 newsolaris8clientname sun4u this will: enable tftpboot and add some entries to your /etc/ethers and /etc/bootparams - you shouldn't have to edit the files by hand if you get the add_install_client options right. You can also do 'man add_install_client' - it's fairly clear. on client: boot net - should go to an interactive install. that should be about it. you can do this from any machine on the same subnet. It really is a 5 minute job to get this up and running...(unlike a full-blown jumpstart :-) ) The advanced installation guide is the best ref for this: http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.322.7/SPARCINSTALL/@Ab2TocView?Ab2Lang=C&Ab2Enc=iso-8859-1 ----- Original Message ----- is there a way to upgrade a solaris2.6 server to solaris2.8 from a remote server via nfs? please no jumpstart options. thank you. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
