A few weeks ago I put out this plea for help: > >Folks, > I have to put Solaris 2.5.1 onto a new E220R and it is giving >me heaps of grief. I am able to get 2.5.1 11/97 installed on the >machine using the OECD, the thing starts trying to boot but it gets >stuck on: > >WARNING: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3(glm0) >Connected command timeout for Target 0.0 > >I have tried installing patch 103981 (tricky on a machine that won't >boot ;-) but this did not fix the problem. I have tried different drives, >removing drives, other patches but nothing seems to be getting >anywhere. The machine boots the OECD fine so I believe the hardware >to be ok. I really need to put 2.5.1 on this machine, can anyone give >me any hints on what I can do? Thanks. > Unfortunately, I did not get a resolution for this one. In the end I just put 2.6 on the machine which worked without a problem which was a relief since the kown-to-be-version-senstive-and-would-require-a-six-figure-upgrade-cost bit of software that was driving the requirement for 2.5.1 actually runs on 2.6. Most answers I received said I could not put 2.5.1 on the machine, I still do not think this is correct. I have 4 E420R's running 2.5.1 without a problem (Sun support have agreed in writing to support this configuration too) and there are articles in sunsolve indicating that 2.5.1 on a 220R is supported, I simply ran out of time for getting 2.5.1 up and running so had to pull the plug on it. Only one person suggested there could be a patch that fixed the problem, I am pretty sure that is correct but I have no conclusive proof of that.
