Sun Managers, Thanks for the responses so far. Previous posting is below. Here is some more info from troubleshooting the past couple of days: * This is not an hme =81gcard=81h, it is just the built in ethernet interface to the Sun Ultra2. =20 * I tried setting all the parameters in the etc/system file as below as some had suggested to me. No effect. =20 set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=3D1 set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=3D1 set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=3D1 set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=3D1 set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=3D0 This way the interface will take any setting that works. =20 * I got to an OK prompt using =81ginit 0=81h because I have a PS/2 = keyboard running through a Sun converter. I was not able to figure out how to send a break command. Using init 0 I was able to get to an OK prompt. >From the OK prompt I ran watch-net and watch-net-all and test net. All of these tests returned nothing and hung the system. I had to reboot after each test. =20 * I checked the var/adm/messages file and it shows the hme device detected and recognized. * When booting, the hme device is recognized, shows a MAC address, gets a network and netmask, an IP address, and the hostname is set successfully. =20 * I have no way of testing if the MII interface is actually working, but it still shows the MII interface as the transceiver_in_use and link_status as 1. =20 * I also tried an =81gifconfig 10.1.10.245 netmask 255.255.255.0 up=81h = but this did not seem to make any difference.=20 Any help or ideas anyone may have about this problem is greatly appreciated. =20 Thanks, Aaron Gabrielson -------------------------------- Previous Posting: -------------------------------- I currently have a Sun Ultra2 Enterprise with Solaris 8. It is a newly acquired used machine and I have not been able to get the nic working. I have a twisted-pair cable connected to a Cisco switch and I do not get a link light. I can ping my own interface successfully. I checked ndd transceiver_in_use and it returns 1, meaning the MII interface is in use. ndd link_status also returns 1. So it is telling me the MII is in use and it has an active link. I have nothing connected to the MII interface however. Any idea on how to force the card to use the twisted pair interface? I checked sun docs and it says the card automatically chooses the right interface. Why am I getting this bogus information? Any help is appreciated, I am a bit new to Sun and Solaris but I do not mind reading documentation, I have read everything I can find on this however.Received on Tue Aug 28 09:38:19 2001
