To even expand on that you can use the first cylinder ( 0 ) of the disk, just done use that slice for a metadevice that you want sybase to use. Thanks Eric, and to everyone else that help out too! ----- Original Message ----- From: Eric Shafto To: Paul Adair Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2001 9:49 PM Subject: Re: Sybase on a DiskSuite Mirror. As long as you don't the first cylinder of a disk as part of a metadisk that you wish to use for a Sybase raw partition, it should work fine. Just start your first partition at cylinder 1, rather than 0. On Friday, September 14, 2001, at 04:51 PM, Paul Adair wrote: Is anyone using Sybase and DiskSuite together? I'm at the point of installing Sybase on a fresh system and I am at the point where you specify the master device partition and running into problems using /dev/md/dsk/d30 (d30 is the meta disk mirror made up of d31 and d32 I want to use for) Thanks, Paul. --Boundary_(ID_DFiH4JclXu1JF2mPkDqSzw) Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <META content="MSHTML 5.50.4134.100" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I got A LOT of possible reasons why I was having problems using DiskSuite mirrored metadevices as Sybase devices and this is the one that solved the problem. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>To even expand on that you can use the first cylinder ( 0 ) of the disk, just done use that slice for a metadevice that you want sybase to use.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Thanks Eric, and to everyone else that help out too!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 2px solid; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"> <DIV style="FONT: 10pt arial">----- Original Message ----- </DIV> <DIV style="BACKGROUND: #e4e4e4; FONT: 10pt arial; font-color: black"><B>From:</B> <A title=eshafto@mac.com href="mailto:eshafto@mac.com">Eric Shafto</A> </DIV> <DIV style="FONT: 10pt arial"><B>To:</B> <A title=padair@pntsi.ca href="mailto:padair@pntsi.ca">Paul Adair</A> </DIV> <DIV style="FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Sent:</B> Saturday, September 15, 2001 9:49 PM</DIV> <DIV style="FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Subject:</B> Re: Sybase on a DiskSuite Mirror.</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><BR></DIV>As long as you don't the first cylinder of a disk as part of a metadisk that you wish to use for a Sybase raw partition, it should work fine.
