First thanks for the help. The nsswitch.conf file was set up to use dns. The problem was either with nscd or the way the resolv.conf file was set up. This server is multihomed and on two different networks and had one name server on one network and another name server on the other network. From what I have been told this can cause problems. Thanks again for all the information. Having a strange problem on one of my Solaris 8 servers. If I do an nslookup on a hostname, it returns a valid IP address. However if I do a ping to that same hostname it says unknown host. Here is an example output: uspl002:/etc/ > nslookup yahoo.com Server: xxx.xxman.com Address: 192.168.1.1 Non-authoritative answer: Name: yahoo.com Addresses: 216.115.108.245, 216.115.108.243 uspl002:/etc/ > ping yahoo.com ping: unknown host yahoo.com I would really appreciate any help.
