The problem is that I had moved /var/sadm to another partition. ls -ld /var/sadm lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 10 Oct 23 09:24 /var/sadm -> /home/sadm Since I increased the root partition before the upgrade attempt, I'm able to move the "sadm" directory back to the /var directory and perform the upgrade. I did the following: rm /var/sadm (this removes the symbolic link) mv /home/sadm /var Thanks to all who responded!
