Thanks to Lars Hecking, Jay Lessert, Dan Astoorian, and Art Coppock. The problem was correctly identified as a bad patch (108652-40). Removing this patch fixed the problem. However, I'm having problem removing it on some boxes, but that will be the subject of my next post. Thanks again, all. *** Original Post: Gurus, I have about 100 clients (Ultra-1, Ultra-5 and SPARC-20) which had been running either Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 8 (01/01). I jumpstarted most to Solaris 8 (07/01) with the 11/05 recommended patches. Now many are having problems wherein the X client crashes when running certain apps (e.g. Metawin and Cadence). When the X client crashes, the $HOME/.dt/errorlog contains: Workspace Manager: I/O error on display:: :0.0 It seems that a common factor in the clients with problems is a cgsix frame buffer. Clients with other frame buffers (m64 and ffb) don't have any problems. Also, these worked fine under the 01/01 Solaris 8 rev. Searches on Sunsolve and others came up empty for this problem. To get my users back up and running, I'm rebuilding the most critical with the older Solaris 8. Is there a better fix? Have a missed a patch or included one that's causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated. Will summarize. -- Ed Alexander Senior Systems Administrator MEUS, Design Engineering Center - East 2635 Meridian Parkway Durham North Carolina 27713 ed.alexander@msai.mea.comReceived on Tue Nov 27 15:34:52 2001
