Thank you Adminis for the insight. I got hammered with replies. Here is one reply that fits the qustion for me. The standard LVM on Solaris 8 ist the "Solaris Volume Manager (SVM)" formerly called "Solstice Disksuite (SDS)". SDS was a part of the "Solaris Easy Access Server" in Solaris 2.6 and 7. SVM is now part of the base platform in Solaris 8 an 9. You can install it with the initial installation. Look for the Install-, User- and Admin-Guides by searching for SDS/SVM under: http://docs.sun.com/ BEST REGARDS, John Corcoran Unix System Administrator >From: "john corcoran" <using_unix@hotmail.com> >To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org >Subject: LVM in solaris 2.6 >Date: Fri, 07 Dec 2001 07:37:34 -0500 > >Hi Admins, > >I have been using the FORMAT command to partition disks on our older unix >boxes. > >We are in the process of purchasing a 250 E solaris server. >I need to know more about what kind of LVM or the virtual disk manager that >solaris 2.8 offers. > >Is there a LVM manager included in the OS Solaris 2.8 install software ? >What is the name of the program ? >How do I invoke the LVM on the command line? > >If the lvm does not come with the base OS,where can I get more information >on it ? what would the program be called ? > > >BEST REGARDS, > >John Corcoran >Unix System Administrator > > >_________________________________________________________________ >Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp >_______________________________________________ >sunmanagers mailing list >sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org >http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.aspReceived on Fri Dec 7 16:11:46 2001
