The "answer": 1) Sun's ftpd is not capable of doing this. 2) The general consensus is to use another ftpd - ProFtp and NCftp were the most frequent products mentioned. I will check them out, and make a recommendation to TPTB. 3) The general opinion is that other products have their share of bugs as well, but the perception is that they are fewer than WU-ftpd's. The question: I've been asked to replace the WU-ftpd software on a machine with Sun's ftpd. This is due to security and maintainability concerns with the WU-ftpd. The difficulty I've run into is the configuration of the ftp-only user accounts so those user accounts can only see their own home directory structure, and not the entire filesystem. I've asked Sun support, and they maintain there's no way to set this up. Sun has provided the suggestion of using anonymous ftp with a sublogin but I don't want to set up anonymous ftp on the machine in question. Is there some secret to the ftpd configuration that will restrict an ftp-only login to a single directory similar to WU-ftpd? Is there another ftp daemon that will do this? By removing WU-ftpd and installing something else, am I starting down a slippery slope leading to an ugly mess? Any help would be appreciated, and a summary will follow. Thanks.....
