Short answer: the fan speeds and die temps I was seeing are in the normal operating range. There is a lot of variability in temperatures and fan speeds. Although my CPU fan speed is 71% where others are 20% to 40%, my CPU temps are typical as compared to other systems. We're going to watch the system closely, log output from the console, and as Caspar suggested, check "eeprom #power-cycles" to see if someone is tripping over power cables or something similar.
