Thank from the help from Pierre Zimmermann [Pierre.Zimmermann@tecnomen.fi] Ramini Gabriel [gabriel.ramini@fastweb.it] mike.salehi@kodak.com Gaziz Nugmanov [sunman@lists.gaziz.ca] Jeff Woolsey [woolsey@jlw.com] Dan Astoorian [djast@cs.toronto.edu] bergman@merctech.com John Leadeham [JLeadeham@interx.com] Homan, Charles (NE) [Charles.Homan@GDC4S.Com] (he has been dope-slapped) Dave Mitchell [davem@fdgroup.com] The problem was that we had moved all the files into the last directory of the system, in this case xfn, and not the bootblk being damaged. To restore the files: boot cdrom -sw mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a cd /a/xfn ls -lcrt (find files that have the time of the move error) mv * .. (at the time xfn had no files in it, in our case) ls -l (check if bin -> ./usr/bin and lib -> ./usr/lib) init 6 As it was explained to us, to mv command "mv *.html *" translates to "mv *.html TT_DB bin cdrom dev devices etc export floppy home kernel lib lost+found mnt net opt platform proc sbin tmp usr var vol xfn" which means move everything (*.html and TT_BD and bin and cdrom and dev and ... ) to xfn (the last directory). _________________________________________________ Kamalan Govender Computer & Network Services University of the Witwatersrand Tel: +27 11 717 1671 Fax: +27 11 339 1225 Web-site: www.wits.ac.za -----Original Message----- From: sunmanagers-admin@sunmanagers.org [mailto:sunmanagers-admin@sunmanagers.org] On Behalf Of Kamalan Govender Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 7:34 PM To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org Subject: Boot load failed : The file just loaded does not appear to be executable Hi all. We have an Ultra 1 on which someone issued the following command in / mv *.html * This caused the machine to hang and a reboot was done. When the machine came up, the screen shows the following error: Boot load failed The file just loaded does not appear to be executable. From the archive and google, we understand that the bootblk is damages. We have tried the following remedies to solve the problem boot cdrom -s fsck /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a check that there is no restoresymtable file intallboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 umount /a fsck /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 init 6 This unfortunately did not bring up the machine. We have tried booting from Install cdrom and disk 1 of 2 We have also tried boot disk:0 System is Solaris 8 Openboot 3.5 Any more suggestions before we reinstall? _________________________________________________ Kamalan Govender Computer & Network Services University of the Witwatersrand Tel: +27 11 717 1671 Fax: +27 11 339 1225 Web-site: www.wits.ac.za _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Wed Apr 17 03:33:35 2002
