Thanks to everyone who replied. I'll keep my eye out for something on eBay (since this is for sunhelp.org, my nonprofit personal project, I cant afford buying something at retail or even reseller prices). I got a couple of Interphase cards off ebay a copule of weeks ago, but i wont know about Solaris/SPARC compatibility until they get here mid-week. Thanks again. And, the responses: From: "steve j. kondik" <shade@chemlab.org> -------------------------------------------- over where i work, we just buy the McData (emulex) LP8000 boards. i believe they are about $1500 new, but you can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay (i've seen em go for $500). they work in both fc-al or switched fabric modes. these are the boards that EMC has been recommending. From: Thomas Anders <anders@hmi.de> -------------------------------------------- Qlogic and LSI are known to make good FC HBAs. But no SAN equipment can be called cheap, unfortunately. From: Al Hopper <al@logical-approach.com> -------------------------------------------- A Qlogic 2200 series controller from EBay is your best bet. Going rate is between ~ $170 to ~ $300. From: "Mike's List" <mikelist@sky.net> -------------------------------------------- try antares.com --online reseller/shop http://www.ace-electronics.com From: Bertrand_Hutin@notes.amdahl.com -------------------------------------------- Atto seems to be the cheapest here in Europe. http://www.attotech.com/ Drivers available for Solaris. From: "Doug Otto" <doug.otto@govstor.com> -------------------------------------------- The Sun card is a Qlogic 2100. X6799 is the option part num and 375-3019 is the service part num. From: "Rasmussen, Thorfinn T" <Thorfinn.Rasmussen@standardbank.com> -------------------------------------------- qlogic cards are ok as long as you're not trying to connect to any HP arrays. They might work with HP, but HP doesn't support them. From: "Heilke, Rainer" <Rainer.Heilke@atcoitek.com> -------------------------------------------- Emulex still has HBAs for Sparcs. We use them for the Compaq NT/W2K servers, so they can't be all bad. ;-) I don't know their pricing, though, as we use the JNI cards on the Sun side. From: "Kevin Boykin" <kboykin@neteng.com> -------------------------------------------- Refurbed stuff is pretty cheap: www.ccny.com www.wccx.com Both of these are pretty good vendors. From: "Gurugunti, Mahesh" <MGurugunti@us.nomura.com> -------------------------------------------- If you are using anything later than Solaris 2.5.1 go for JNI card. If not go for Sun HBA. From: "Mark Gosselin" <gosselinm@netscout.com> -------------------------------------------- What is you price range?? I'm using Emulex 9000 HBA that cost $1250 each.... An older Emulex8000 is $1222..... From: "Doug Otto" <doug.otto@govstor.com> -------------------------------------------- Check eBay. I grabbed a Sun FC-AL card for $50 earlier in the year....since they're loop only folk don' want them. -- Bill Bradford mrbill@mrbill.net Austin, TX _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Mon Jun 3 00:44:47 2002
