[SUMMARY]: syslogd behaving oddly

Hi

Thanks to all who responded. It seems that this is a fairly common problem
(on both 2.6 and 8), and the workaround I adopted was to change the
newsyslog script to stop it HUP'ing syslogd, and rather to stop and restart
it.
