Hello managers, i've got no response to my question (see below). We try to use a linux-fontserver now... With regards, Bernt Christandl ------------------------- original question: Hello managers, we have an environment with several different unixes (solaris, linux, aix, irix). For the distribution of fonts we still use (for "historical" reasons :) the aix-fontserver xfs (which is a good reason for bad feelings each day) So we try to move over to the sun-fontserver, which is started by inetd. Usually it works to "say" xset +fp tcp/<sun>:<port> without problems. (<sun> means our sun-host and <port> the port for the fontserver) But now and then the above command results in the following error-message (on my linux-based "Xterminal-PC") X Error of failed request: 86 Major opcode of failed request: 51 (X_SetFontPath) Serial number of failed request: 9 Current serial number in output stream: 11 This does not mean anything to me :( aside from "it is not working". A "kill -HUP <inetd_PID>" does not help. But a reboot (of the sun) does help. My linux-session continues while the sun reboots. So what is my real problem? This is solaris-2.7 with most recent patches.
