First off, a big thank you to all the people who responded. The IO fan speeds in our V880 are right in line with everybody else. Even though the CPU temps are similar, we're running 200-500 RPM faster than average (although it should be noted that one person actually had faster CPU fans speeds than us). I have Sun out looking at the box and they think it's a bit loud as well. The room is cool enough that the fans should be kicking down to the 2200-2400 RPM range and they're not. Even at 2200 RPM, this machine is a lot louder than our E450. I'm not exactly sure what the Site Planning Guide is measuring, but in our environment a V880 is about 2-3 times louder... Thanks again to all who resonded! JLB --- Jody L. Baze Blue Sky Tours, Inc. Director 10832 Prospect Avenue N.E. Thought I'd ask what other people with similar machines were seeing as far as fan speeds go. This machine has 4x750MHz CPUs and is fully populated with 12 drives. We only have 3 cards: PGX64, QFE, and another FC-AL host adapter. The ambient room temp is about 72 deg F. Here's what kind of fan speeds we're seeing after the OS is booted (taken via /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v): Bank Speed Status Fan State ( RPMS ) ---- -------- --------- --------- CPU0_PRIM_FAN 2941 [ENABLED] OK CPU1_PRIM_FAN 2884 [ENABLED] OK CPU0_SEC_FAN 0 [DISABLED] OK CPU1_SEC_FAN 0 [DISABLED] OK IO0_PRIM_FAN 4054 [ENABLED] OK IO1_PRIM_FAN 4000 [ENABLED] OK IO0_SEC_FAN 0 [DISABLED] OK IO1_SEC_FAN 0 [DISABLED] OK IO_BRIDGE_PRIM_FAN 3614 [ENABLED] OK IO_BRIDGE_SEC_FAN 0 [DISABLED] OK According to the "Site Planning Guide for Entry Level Servers" that Sun puts out, the V880 is supposed to run at 4.7 bels and an E450 at 4.9 bels. The V880 is a *lot* noisier than our E450, which seems odd given the noise specs from Sun's book. Just wondering if anybody can send me the prtdiag output for the fan banks on their V880. Thanks a bunch! P.S. - Here's the temp output for comparison: System Temperatures (Celsius): ------------------------------- Device Temperature Status --------------------------------------- CPU0 69 OK CPU1 72 OK CPU2 62 OK CPU3 62 OK MB 33 OK IOB 28 OK DBP0 29 OK DBP1 28 OK _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Aug 13 12:21:26 2002
