Thanks a lot to everybody who replied. At first myself and others suspected that the card was dead, or at least the port of it. Hans Schaechl came up with some other good ideas to test, and lo and behold, my troubles went away; "there is no internal jumper I know of which switches from MII to TP or back, the only jumper in connection with ethernet is J3602/J3603 for Ethernet edge tests. Use of MII or onboard transceiver is automatically chosen. Since your boot sequence once said "Using Onboard Transceiver" I think you can be sure it does not use the MII interface. But maybe your onboard trx is just broken. You could try to change the tpe-link-test? parameter in OBP. By default it is "true", maybe someone played with that one. If not, change it anyway just to see :) Did you already try to intercon two hme interfaces without using the hub, by crossover cabling?" I tried setting tpe-link-test? to false once more and that brought the link up. Once again, thanks to everybody who replied. I really appreciate your time.
