Summary: Strange system problems.

         This is a preliminary summary only as nothing definitive has been 
discovered.
After discussions with Sun support the feeling is that the strange 
behaviour being
exhibited by the system was probably due to the system clock being set back
some 24 years. The cause of this, at this stage, is thought to be a problem 
with
a system controller failover. I will post again when something more definite is
known.
