Thanks you everyone for you responses. Two overwhelming choices are clear. X Virtual Frame Buffer (Included in Sol9) http://ferret.wrc.noaa.gov/Ferret/FAQ/graphics/Solaris_Xvfb.html http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.1/Xvfb.1.html or VNC http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ Original Question ----------------- I have a DBA who is trying to run an X program from the command line. The GUI side of it is not used. Seriously, Oracle came out with this X program that will run from the command line but it has to have an X display for it to run. The end goal would be to run it from cron for maint of some sort. Is there a way to point the DISPLAY variable at a null device so this thing can run. I know this sounds weird. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rick von Richter Production Support Manager Voice: 858-831-2222 rickv@mwh.com Maintenance Warehouse/Home Depot Fax: 858-831-2221 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The box says: Win98, WinNT or BETTER.
