Thanks to all who responded; it appears that I should have called Sun first (although the response from this list is much faster than Sun customer service). Responses from Benoit, Angel and Drew pointed out that there are system patches that deal with the Hitachi drive problem. These patches are noted in Benoit's posted summary to this list. 115662-01 Hardware/Firmware: LSI1030 U320 SCSI controller 116369-01 Hardware 36GB SCSI Disk Drive Patch : Download program and SCSI Disk Drive firmware 115274-03 SunOS 5.8: /usr/sbin/raidctl patch 115275-02 SunOS 5.8: mpt driver patch 108974-37 SunOS 5.8: dada, uata, dad, sd, ssd and scsi drivers patch 115846-02 Hardware/PROM: Sun Fire V440 Flash PROM Update To anyone who I made nervous about my use of fsck, I run it at user level S. That issue may be completey separate from the drive problem. I'll know after I get the patches installed. thanks -- Iain Drummond, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Renal Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Wed Feb 11 13:03:12 2004
