SUMMARY: openssl

Thanks for your replies, some of you nailed it ... Although I had just re-compiled before getting all of your replies through with the "shared" directive and that created the .so files for me, which is what I was missing. But thanks anyway .....

This is not mystrong point by the way ..... So patience please :-)





I just compiled the latest version of openssl on my E420/Solaris 8



I got some unexpected things. I copied the old /usr/loca/ssl to /usr/local/ssl_old, the compiled the latest source from www.openssl.org which is 0.9.7m



In the /usr/local/ssl/lib directory I have these files -



ls -al /usr/local/ssl/lib

total 4020

drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 512 May 12 12:46 .

drwxr-xr-x 9 root other 512 May 12 12:46 ..

-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 1720548 May 12 12:46 libcrypto.a

-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 305788 May 12 12:46 libssl.a

But in the "old" ssl dir I had these files -



ls -al /usr/local/ssl_old/lib

total 14268

I was expecting at least a libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and a libssl.so.0.9.7 ..



Can anyone tell me why theses files weren't created in the new compile ? And what I can do to rectify this ? And explain to me what I should have installed after the new compile ? Is what it has done correct ?
