Hi,

Thanks to Steve Butterfield - he nailed it. His reply is attached below, as is
my original post. Many thanks for the quick reply - I'm now back in action.

Mark,

Often this is what happens when the Serial port PROM settings have
been changed - The hanging part is usually
the ttya-ignore-cd field has been set to false so it waits indefinately
for Carrier to go high before it can continue
if you set this to true it should continue.

Best Regards

Steve Butterfield

Subject: Ultra10 hangs at boot

Hi all,

I have a dead Ultra 10 on my hands. It was powered off over the weekend while
some maintenance work was going on, when I turned it back on this morning, it
refuses to boot.

I have tried booting from both mirrors (DiskSuite), and even tried a variety
of Solaris installation CDs. Same problem each time - it gets as far as
printing out "se0 is /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ebus@1/se@14,400000", then a strange
character gets displayed at the start of the line (in this case "Je0 is....",
but it changes each time I boot), and then the system hangs indefinitely.

I can still break into OBP, but everything else seems hung. I'm using a serial
connection to port A, no monitor or keyboard is attached.

Any ideas what could be causing this ? Full diagnostic and verbose boot
attached below, and I will of course summarise any responses.

Thanks in advance,

-Mark
