Hello all, I believe I have things in order now.... I actually managed to figure it out on my own with a small hint from Stuart Saxon: Check your /etc/resolv.conf check your /etc/nswwitch.conf Also try Getent hosts backup_server The resolv.conf and nsswitch.conf files were good.... but the getent proved that gazoo (and not the others) couldn't pull the entry for the backup server's IP from NIS.... investigating NIS (ug) showed that SOMEONE had made a change and switched it's domain WHILE ypbind was running... so now NIS was configured as a server for a new "test" domain but was still acting as a client to the old domain... DUH.... So a /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypstop and /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypstart fired up the correct daemons and NIS was running as expected and wallah - getent now pulls both the backup server's name and the IP entries from NIS.... no more errors in the nsrexecd daemon log... Thanks! Kudos to Luc, Thierry, Bruce, and especially Stuart and Rich who had me ROFLMAO while giving words of wisdom. I hope I can give back in kind to this group ;) Denny Snyder Systems Engineer, IT - JHMCIS Mt. The Legato client was installed with identical options on all. The 6 systems are tied togother via NIS running on the 1st V240 - and 5 of them are backup up to the backup server(s) without error. The 2nd V240 (gazoo) is failing. The /etc/nsr/logs/daemon.log shows: 06/19/06 11:53:54 nsrexecd: Diagnostic: Reverse DNS lookup failed for host supersecret.backup.domain.dom, address nn.nn.nn.nn 06/19/06 19:01:09 nsrexecd: Host name verification failed - unknown host: nn.nn.nn.nn The other 5 systems could care less about reverse lookups and are perfectly content to just shove all their data down the backup server's throat... gazoo however, absolutely refuses to allow the system to send to the backup server since it fails reverse lookup verification. In examining the Legato docs on nsrexecd, I modified the startup script to add '-i' to disable reverse lookups and hostname verification.... which changed absolutely nothing.... :( yay legato... big help... Each system has the two backup servers in their hosts file. Why only gazoo? How come the other 5 fire right up and backup with no problems? (without the '-i' switch I might add) Any 'Wile E Coyote - Super Geniuses' out there have any ideas... my name's mud at this point.... and Legato is about as helpful as a wet mouse... Color me frustrated. Thanks for any and all help.... Denny Snyder Systems Engineer, IT - JHMCIS Mt.
