Thank you to Chris and Mac for responding. For some reason, the entries for 'ce' were missing in /etc/driver_aliases. I compared with a working V440, then added the missing lines: ce "pci108e,abba" ce "pci100b,35" After reboot -- -r (twice) the interface came up... I should note that as part of a custom finish script we run after the archive is recovered, we remove /etc/.UNCONFIGURED so the installer isn't prompted to re-enter all the information they already entered as part of our custom begin script. Maybe we should revisit how we implement our 'custom' stuff -- but we have been creating/restoring archives using basically the same process for years without ever having seen this problem. The only major change to our image baseline is the addition of Solstice Disk Suite for disk mirroring. I don't know if that might affect the network interfaces, but I will look into Chris' suggestion to exclude /etc/system from the archive, and reboot with -bas flags. Is it sufficiently different to the one the flash was taken from? What does: Ls -l /dev/qfe* Ls -l /dev/bge* Ls -l /dev/eri* show you? If you have any of the above, try ifconfig qfe0 plumb Ifconfig bge0 plumb Etc The thing is that if I recall correct sysidconfig should handle any differences in network hardware.
