Thanks for all who replied. there was the resounding answer of duplex autonegotiation flapping which I had thought was a Solaris problem of yesteryear but apparently this is still around. the Solaris 8 box indeed had the proper ndd commands and switch config. After making the same changes to the Solaris 10 box and switchport my connection speed is much better. The REALLY disturbing part about this is that I had tried to hard code it to 1000fdx (since it was a gig card and switch) but the results were the same dismal performance. I thought that gigE had to be autonegotiated, which begs the question.... Can Solaris perform at gigE speeds????? PS - Thanks Dean for that cool script!!
