I received a good half-dozen replies on this question. John JJ Hazelwood hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that I was missing the 'SUNWmdb' package. (My first "worrisome message" was 'mdb not found: patchadd not safe.') I noticed there was also a 'SUNWmdbr' package, added both packages to my jumpstart config and rejumped the box. This time, I got no 'worrisome messages', no warnings, no undefined symbols. The patch ran to completion without a hitch. Several other respondents mentioned a Sun Alert on this particular patch, however that alert only applies when using the '-d' option to 'patchadd', which I was not.
