*NIS password issue has been resolved. The main problem was on is command itself. I checked the script yppasswd and the PATH to the passwd file was commented out. I simply pointed to the location of the NIS database and reload the yppasswd; after that it simply worked. ETCDIR=/var/PATH_TO_NIS_DATABASE not path to the NIS MAPS. My original question. Managers, I tried to change the password for a user but it failed. I believe someone might have faced similar kind of problem, When I tried to change a password as a normal user*, I got the following error [kamal@s00 ~]$ passwd Changing password for user kamal. passwd: Authentication token manipulation error [kamal@s00 ~]$ [kamal@s00 ~]$ yppasswd Changing NIS account information for kamal on s00.
