Thanks for the prompt response: Gurudatta, Joe Fletcher, Ric Anderson ,Fransico Roque & all sunmanagers. I tried checking the SCSI termination on the Tape drive and it was fine as it was working on a SPARC Blade machine. Also the boot option on the SCSi controller was OFF. I also checked the SCSi bus id probing and found that it was giving this error in /var/log/messages file. ct 17 15:43:16 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:43:16 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 1 Oct 17 15:44:26 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:44:26 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 2 Oct 17 15:45:36 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:45:36 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 3 Oct 17 15:46:46 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:46:46 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 4 Oct 17 15:47:57 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:47:57 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 5 Oct 17 15:49:07 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:49:07 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 6 Oct 17 15:50:17 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:50:17 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 7 Oct 17 15:51:27 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:51:27 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 8 Oct 17 15:52:38 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:52:38 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 9 Oct 17 15:53:48 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available command timeout for Target 10 Oct 17 15:54:58 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:54:58 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 11 Oct 17 15:56:09 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:56:09 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 12 Oct 17 15:57:19 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:57:19 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 13 Oct 17 15:58:29 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:58:29 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 14 Oct 17 15:59:39 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available Oct 17 15:59:39 I3361 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: Disconnected command timeout for Target 15 Oct 17 16:00:50 I3361 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: mpt0: fault detecte d in device; service still available command Finally a desperate attempt of searching the web brought me to this link. http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-102599-1 Updating the kernel finally solved my problem. The solution was simple it took me 2 days :). Thanks again guys for all the help. To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org Hi All, We had a request for connecting an HP DAT 40 Tape Drive to be connected to an Ultra 40 (x64) workstation. Since the workstation does not come with a standard SCSi card, we ordered a SCSI Ultra 320 Host Bus Adapter from SUN. The card is a LSI Logic card (LSI20320). On installation of the card and doing a reconfigure boot causes the system to hang. Even devfsadm command hangs for a long time. I then have to shut the system, remove the card and power on the machine. It then boots up fine. I initially thought it could be a problem with the card, and hence tried another of the same card which resulted in the same behavior. The Ultra 40(x64) workstation is loaded with Solaris 10 06/06 OS (118855-14 ). Has any one faced such a problem or has any idea how to debug the problem then please help.
