Thanks to Martin Pre_laber for his helpful response. I mailed / filled in various web forms, the one I think that was most useful was the one Martin recommended, which was this: http://sunsolve.sun.com/show.do?target=feedback . The result of this is that my sunsolve account now has a valid contract, so this process does seem to work. Except: it's not *my* contract/subscription, and its expiry is a long time before my subscription expires.
