Thanks to Matthew Stier for a quick response. Yep, Sun changed printing in Sol 10 update 5 (05/08) by going to Open Standard Print API. The relevant document is http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/819-7355/819-7355.pdf. The lpadmin commands still work but there are additional "options". The down size is that my printer discovery scripts will not work with the new stuff. Such is progress. I get different results in /etc/printers.conf for the same lpadmin command. Anyone know why this changed and how to get the info to match? The only difference is the version of Solaris 10. for release: Solaris 10 8/07 # lpadmin -p DP65 -s XEROX65!DP65 in /etc/printers.conf DP65:\ :bsdaddr=XEROX65,DP65,Solaris: # lpstat -lp DP65 printer DP65 faulted printing DP65-0. enabled since Dec 09 14:37 2008. available. server XEROX65 not responding Remote Name: DP65 Remote Server: XEROX65 for release: Solaris 10 5/08 # lpadmin -p DP65 -s XEROX65!DP65 in /etc/printers.conf DP65:\ :printer-uri-supported=lpd\://XEROX65.printers.chep.com/printers/DP65#Solaris :\ :bsdaddr=XEROX65,DP65,Solaris: # lpstat -lp DP65 Failed to get printer info for DP65: not-found _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Wed Dec 10 15:47:34 2008
