Thank you to: Hendrik Visage Adrian Koester Paul Kraus I ended up by copying the following files: /var/nis /etc/.rootkey /etc/nsswitch.conf /etc/defaultdomain from the old master to the new master; shut down the old master, config the new master with same hostname and IP as the old master and reboot. The "new" master has been running for 2 days without any complaint. I would consider this to be the efficient way in relocating/upgrade NIS+ master.
