I want to summarize the case I opened earlier. The issue was that there was a script file in rc2.d with name S18setuname Inside the file, I found one line setuname -t -s <machinename> Once I removed the script from rc2.d, everything went fine. It seems someone has run something like setuname -s <machinename>, which generated this file. Since I got this machine from some other owner, so I took time to figure out. Anyway, thanks to everyone who send their responses. -Rajdeep From: Rajdeep Sengupta Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 1:59 PM To: 'sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org' Subject: Issue with 'uname -s' Hi, I have a peculiar issue with my Sun v210 machine running solaris 8, when I give uname -s, it should return "SunOS", instead it is giving me output as the host name. This is not happening if I go to single user mode. What can be wrong? I tried to identify a file which hold this info, but could not find one. Please help. The issue is shown below.. ------------------------------------------------ queen% uname -a queen queen 5.8 Generic_108528-29 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210 queen% uname -s queen --------------------------------------------------------- Thanks Rajdeep ________________________________ NOTE: This message and its attachments are intended only for the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential information or forward-looking statements regarding product development.
