this was quickly decided (thx to Francisco Roque, Peter Stokes, Sean Berry and Roger Kyneston for their suggestions): - Netra-X1 USB ports are USB-1, so way too slow for having fun with it - there seem to exist SCSI-to-USB convertors - USB-based DDS3 tape drives exist, not so cheap tough Concensus (and that's how I am doing the backups already since several months) is to spend the same amount of money rather on larger disks (such as 1 TB or even 2 TB disks) and do backups to disk, no more to (slow and small capacity) tapes. cheers!
