Thanks to all who responded. At this time, we have been able to connect
terminals to the external serial ports on the serial-parallel boad pannel.
The steps we had to use were:
[1] installed patch 100928-01
[2] added a new entry to the /etc/ttydefs file: ( Note this is one line )
9600HDS: 9600 clocal -parrenb -istrip hupcl opost onler tab3 brkint ignpar
ixon ixoff echo echoe echok icanon isig cs8 cread:9600 -parenb -istrip clocal
opost onlcr tab3 brkint ignpar ixon ixoff echo echoe echok icanon isig cs8
cread hupcl::9600HDS
[3] associate a service with pmadm command
# pmadm -a -p ttymon0 -s 0 -i root -v 1 -fu -m "`ttyadm -d /dev/term/0 -s
/usr/bin/login/ -l 9600HDS -S y -m ldterm,ttcompat -T vt100 -p
'spif login:'`" -y "tty0 port monitor"

Hi managers:
We are trying to add ASCII terminals to a SS10 running Solaris 2.1 without any patches. After fitting the Serial-Parallel adapter board and installing the driver, we started port moniters ( ttymon ) for the serial
ports. However, the terminals are still not responding. I would appreciate
your comments and insight on this problem.
Also, the communication parameters on the terminal are:
- 9600 baud
- 8 bit, 1 stop bit, no parity
We were not certain what the corresponding entry in the /etc/ttydefs should be.
The exact commands we have tried to start the ttymon for the serial ports
were:
# sacadm -a -p ttymonp0 -t ttymon -c /usr/lib/saf/ttymon -v 1
# pmadm -a -p ttymonp0 -s 0 -i root -fu -v 1 -m "`ttyadm -d \
/dev/term/0 -l 9600 -s /usr/bin/login`"
thanks,
