i posted about a week ago asking about ways to hook a sun to an as/400
over twinax cable and do 5250 emulation. in short, it looks like
this is not possible.
here is a summary of what i found out:
there is a danish company which makes a device to attach
twinax peripherals and hosts to a (presumably ethernet) network.
Cray Networks A/S
Smedeholm 12-14
DK-2730 Herlev
Phone: 44530100
FAX: 44531415
a call to ibm resulted in a recommendation to put tcp/ip on the as/400.
brixton systems (1-800-BRIXTON, (617) 661 6262) makes a boatload of
sun-ibm connectivity products, including an sbus token ring card and
5250 emulation software.
starware (formerly sna solutions, (510) 704-2000, sales@starware.com) also
is in the sun-ibm connectivity business. they offer products to hook
the as/400 and sun up via sdlc or token ring. their products require
sunlink sna peer-to-peer. their product line looks pretty spiffy and
probably works great, but it isn't cheap---the sunlink sna peer-to-peer
runtime alone is $3000.
andrew corp. (1-800-776-6174, (206) 485-8200) now offers products that
work with sco unix, and no longer supports suns.
if anyone wants any more info, email me; my machine is not very well
connected newswise, and i probably won't see any followups.
ibm stuff is certainly different...
