Thank you all very much for the responses. I apologize for the delay in the
summary.
-The majority of the recommendiations pointed me to the wuarchive version of ftpd.
It is located on wuarchive.wustl.edu in directory /packages/wu-ftpd. It was
also recommended that I pickup log_tcp-5.1.
-Another manager recommended tcp_wrappers program from the Eindhoven University
Technology in The Netherlands.
-Yet another said:
These are 4 versions that have enhanced logging or can be modified
to enable logging:
wuarchive.wustl.edu (128.252.135.4) /packages/ftpd.wuarchive.shar
isy.liu.se (130.236.1.3) /pub/ftpd.tar.Z
ftp.adelaide.edu.au (129.127.40.3) /pub/4.3/ftpd-sirius.tar.Z
ftp.cs.widener.edu (147.31.254.132) /pub/src/widener/ftpd-wid.tar.Z
- Another recommendation was to modify the existing Sun configuration
The stock Sun ftpd will log some information if you add the "-l"
flag in /etc/inetd.conf:
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/etc/in.ftpd in.ftpd -l
Also enable syslogd by adding:
daemon.info /var/adm/syslog
to "/etc/syslog.conf".
- I could have also extracted the information from the FAQ (sorry for not
looking there in the first place)
QUESTION NUMBER 24
In summary, I have decided to go with the wuarchive.
