Original question was a request for jumper info for the ST4350NM / 94171-350M

I received a number of replies that included disktab info but these were for
other drives: the 344 or the 307. The number of cylinders (and one assumes,
other things such as number of heads, sec/trk etc) are not the same. The 350
has 1412 while the 344 has 1545 and the 307 has 1407 or some such. I was
initially unsure about this myself and wondered if this was just sun renaming
these things... (check out the reply at the bottom)

What follows are a number of replies with the complete technical info on the

Pins 3-5 are the drive select pins, configured as follows:
No jumper SCSI ID 0
pin 5 SCSI ID 1
pin 4 SCSI ID 2
pins 4 and 5 SCSI ID 3
pin 3 SCSI ID 4
pins 3 and 5 SCSI ID 5
pins 3 and 4 SCSI ID 6
pins 3,4,and 5 SCSI ID 7
Looking at that, I probably didn't need to tell you that! ;>
Pin 1, if jumped, enables parity check.
Pin 2, if jumped, means that the drive motor will not start until it
receives a Start Unit Command. If not jumped, the drive motor will start
immediately.
Pins 6 and 7 are the ground select jumpers. My manual says to "see figure
2-6", but there is no figure 2-6. ;> We've always ignored these--left them
in whatever configuration they were in, with no problem.
Pins 8 and 9 refer to the terminator power source select. quoting from
the manual:
If the unit is not to be terminated, remove terminator resistor DIPs.
If installed, the TP jumper (for pins 8 and 9) must be installed only in
one of the two positions shown in the figure below.
Jumper in vertical position (default position) means terminator power
(+5 V) is from WREN IV power connector. Jumper in horizontal position
means terminator power is taken from the interface (SCSI) cable.
The diagram shows that for the vertical position, the jumper should be on
the leftmost pins, and for the horizontal position, the jumper should
connect the bottom two pins.
The terminator resistor DIPs are on either side of the drive, on the
bottom rear, and are socketed for removal. Since we externally terminate
our drives, these are by default always removed.
