SUMMARY: Solaris 2.3 and disk partitions > 2GB

Executive summary: it works. I now have my elite 9 drive running happily
with a single, 8.3 GB partition.

The problem with fsck is weird. Before, I had typed (and gotten):

        ale# fsck /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s2
        ** /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s2

        CANNOT SEEK: BLK 17699360
        CONTINUE?

The trick, of course, is "don't do that". If I fsck the /dev/rdsk entry
instead, it works great. Since that's what the system does on boot, there
are no difficulties.

Now in the old days, fsck really didn't seem to care whether you fed it the
raw or buffered device. I don't really understand why it should care now.

Now if I could just figure out how I'm going to back up five of these
disks....

Lots of folks told me to get Online: Disksuite, but the truth of the matter
is you don't need it for these drives. Thank to Sten Gunterberg,
sten@ergon.ch, who, perhaps unwittingly, got me pointed in the right
direction.
