Hi out there,
Got a bit of a problem @ the moment.
I have a headless SparcServer 1000 with the entire
distribution of Solaris 2.3 loaded.
I need to view answerbook - so my immediate thoughts were - it's been
reimplemented in X11R5 with the DPS X extensions.
So following this line of thinking the next step was
maybe it will display on my Silicon Graphics Indy2
runnig Irix 5.2 or indeed any other X Server with DPS
capabilities ?
Half true.
For some strange reason the docviewer window (DPS) appears
with a fixed size, overlapping courier font. It's so bad
I can't read it.
I copied the usual 75dpi openlook fonts onto the SG to get
XView applications going - and that end of things is fine.
I checked the documentation to find DPS uses it's own
scalable fonts - so the questions are:
HAS ANYBODY SORTED THIS ONE ?
DOES ANYBODY UNDERSTRAND DPS FONT HANDLING ?
IS THIS THE DAWN OF A NEW BLACK ART IN THE UNIX CAMP ?

Not much response to this on, but it was worth a try.
Basically Answerbook DOES display on an X Server running DPS.
The answerbook must be the one shipped with Solaris 2.3
It was re-implmented in DPS for that release, there's no
NeWS in it now - for all those that didn't know this.
It seems that the control of DPS scalable fonts on X Servers
is not a very well known subject.
I contacted Sun (UK help desk) with the problem and they
FAXED me some info on NeWS .....(:-()
Looks like I'll have to buy a Sun monitor and GX card !!
