I had written that my upgrade from 2.5b to 2.5 broke my PPP setup and
had included my Systems, Dialers and Devices files (/etc/uucp)
and excerpts from my asppp.log file. The symptom was:
> 10:22:09 process_ppp_msg: PPP_ERROR_IND Maximum number of configure
> requests exceeded
and my level 9 debugs logs:
> 15:31:12 000024 ipdptp0 RECEIVE {Unescaped characters: 0a 0d } PPP ASYNC
> 252 Octets {BAD FCS} NB (AP) {Unrecognized protocol: d 0a 43 4c 49 3a
> 20 50 65 72 6d 69 73 73 69 6f 6e 20 64 65 6e ..... }
were indicating that ascii was being received briefly from the terminal
server:
> 0a 0d ...(<CR><LF>). CLI: Permission den..
Thanks to Bob Hayes <bob@cs.wwu.edu> who suggested that I manually try my
chat script (Systems file) and determine if it was working.
ppp-gw Any ACUEC 38400 12125551212 "" P_ZERO "" \r\n\c ease? ppp name: hkatz w
ord: XXXXXXXX PPP.
Surely enough I got snagged by the old vi cut & paste line break error
where I thought the line wrapped and it actually didn't: the last 3 words
of my chat script were missing (on the second line).
Nothing broke just a few synapses.
