More of a status report than a summary really, but it doesn't look
like any more responses are incoming...
To launch X with a machine-specific option (the -nominexp option,
for instance), we were pointed to the Xservers file. The default
resides in /usr/dt/config. When implementing changes, CDE recommends
that the file be copied to /etc/dt/config and then modified.
We made this change, but it did not affect the scrolling behavoir
of netscape.
I had one response that had worked with Sun on this very problem, but
was not able to find a fix. Therefore, I have opened a call with
SunService -- I figure the more of us that complain about it, the
better odds of it getting fixed... :-|
One last comment, one respondent indicated that the performance of
his SS5/110 with the S24 graphics was quite poor. Although the S24
is a low-end 24bit graphics card, the move to Solaris 2.5 on my
machine has improved performance pretty dramatically. I'm impressed
by the smoothness and speed of CDE (especially release 1.0.1!). Just
my $0.02 worth...
If we are able to resolve this problem with SunService, I will try
to post a followup if there is any interest...

Just installed Solaris 2.5 on my Sparc-5/85 with an S24 graphics
card. Also installed CDE (_big_improvement_). I think I'm being
bitten by a scrolling bug in netscape. Scrolling a window is
extremely choppy.
Back when we ran Motif off the SDK, we were able to get around this
bug by forcing xinit to swallow the -nominexp option. Under CDE, it's
not at all obvious where X gets started let alone how to force it to
swallow another option (preferably display-dependent).
I've searched through the CDE AnswerBook to no avail (yet). Has
anybody out there been able to fix this one? How come this bug
persists in netscape (we're running version 2.02), or is this a bug
in Sun's Xsun process?
As always, thanks in advance. I will summarize (along with a couple
of other summaries I owe!)
