The orginal question was:
I'm trying to get the Powerchute Plus software from APC to communicate over
ttyb from a UE 3000 to a Matrix 5000 UPS. I'm running Solaris 2.5.1. When the
daemon starts up for the Powerchute Plus software I get a "Unable to communicate with UPS" message.
When I execute "pmadm -l" I get the following for ttyb:
zsmon ttymon ttyb u root /dev/term/b I - /usr/bin/login - 2400 ldterm,ttcompat login: - tv100 n #Modem - Dial-Out Only
Has anybody out there setup Powerchute Plus for Solaris 2.5.1 ?
Thanks for the help.
Solution:
As most everybody mentioned I needed to disable the service which I did using
the admintool but still I got nothing. As a sanity check I brought in a laptop PC connected it to the UPS with all the correct communication parameters. APC instructed me to type in "YYYYY". Still I got nothing.
APC is convinced that the problem is in the serial port on the UPS. They are
sending out another unit.
Since I had the PC I connected it to ttyb on the Sun to observe what was
happening with the ups daemon supplied by APC. I observed it was sending out
"YYYYYY" through the port so I'm pretty satisfied that whenever I do get a
working serial port on the UPS I will be able to communicate with it using ttyb.
Thanks again for all the help.
