Thanks for all the help apparently the st.conf file was correct
particular interest in the attached message as our networker
installation runs badly as well. I don't know if the patch helped as
ultimately it turned out the SCSI id selector on the device was broken.

Don't know if you have got many reply yet, probably knowing this list.
We usually
get things the next day here in Australia.
You need to put in the patch 103857-08. It fixed all of our DLT
problems. We
use Networker and fsf would take 1 hour, now they take seconds!
I looked at the st.conf file ( the patch changed it) and it looks like:
"Quantum DLT4000", "Quantum DLT 4000", "DLT4",
DLT4 = 1,0x38,0,0xd639,4,0x80,0x80,0x80,0x81,3;
It is a "Sun" DLT.
