Thanks to all who responded. Most of the suggestions were to force the port at
the OK prompt. The only problem with that is that I don't have the luxury of
rebooting for a few weeks. Of course if something happens before
that........................
I tried hooking up a dumb terminal but only one was available and no one could
verify that it ever worked (couldn't get it to work on the port either). I
also tried editing the saf (Service Access Facility) to force the port but that
didn't work either. Another suggestion was making sure Powerchute was
installed correctly. I installed the first one without incident and had APC on
the phone for the second one. I know that I shouldn't have to manipulate the
port except to disable the service but it doesn't seem to be working. I'll
have to wait till I can try it at the prompt. If anyone has any other
suggestions in the meantime, I would be grateful.

I am trying to setup Powerchute Plus on a UE2 Server using a Smart UPS 3000.
My problem is that I cannot get /dev/ttya to set properly. Through admintool
I have set the terminal for Hardwired, baud rate 2400, service disabled. These
settings are according to APC. I have one server that is working properly
(same setup) but cannot get this one to work. When I do a stty on the port the
baud rate is still showing 9600 and I cannot establish communication between
the server and the UPS. On the other server stty shows 2400. I have tried
both serial ports on this server as well as both ports on another server (same
setup as well) and cannot get any to show 2400. I would think it unlikely
that 4 serial ports went bad on 2 fairly new servers so it must be something
I'm doing (or not doing).
