SUMMARY: SSA Model 110 disk sizes/speeds and non-Sun disks...

My original question is contained below. The responses I got can be
categorized as follows:

  o Use only Sun disks

o The power supply may need to be beefed up.

o Yes, non-Sun disks will work.

Bruce Chuchel, chuchel@mojave.wr.usgs.gov was particularly helpful and told me
he's been using Seagate ST34572WC drives and where to get the mounting
brackets.

So it looks like I'll be checking the power-supply for any capacity problems
then if that looks good, I'll be getting some Seagate's and mounting brackets.

Thanks to all who responded!

Jeff.
